Privacy Policy

Effective Date: January 15, 2025 | Last Updated: January 15, 2025

At Pizzaiolo, we take your privacy seriously. This document explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you interact with our educational platform focused on food plating and presentation techniques.

We're based in Ontario and follow Canadian privacy laws, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). If you have questions about anything here, just reach out—we're happy to explain in plain language.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide Directly

When you sign up for courses, contact us, or participate in our community, you might share:

  • Name and email address for account creation
  • Phone number if you choose to provide it for course updates
  • Payment information when enrolling in paid programs
  • Portfolio submissions and creative work for course feedback
  • Comments, questions, and forum posts within our learning community

Automatically Collected Information

Like most websites, we automatically gather some technical data:

  • IP address and general location information
  • Browser type and device specifications
  • Pages visited and time spent on our platform
  • Course progress and completion metrics
  • Referring websites and search terms used to find us

How We Use Your Information

We don't sell your personal information. Period. Everything we collect serves one purpose: making your learning experience better and keeping our platform running smoothly.

Course Delivery and Support: We use your contact details to send course materials, respond to questions, and provide technical assistance when you need it.

Platform Improvement: Analytics help us understand which lessons work well and where students struggle, so we can refine our content and teaching methods.

Communication: We'll send educational updates, new course announcements, and occasional tips—but only if you've agreed to receive them. You can opt out anytime.

Security and Fraud Prevention: We monitor activity to protect against unauthorized access and ensure everyone plays by the rules.

Legal Compliance: Sometimes we need to maintain records or share information to comply with Canadian laws and regulations.

Information Sharing and Third Parties

We work with a few trusted service providers to keep things running. They only access what they need to do their job, and they're contractually required to protect your data.

Service Type Purpose Data Shared
Payment Processing Handle course enrollment payments securely Name, email, billing information
Email Services Deliver course materials and notifications Name, email address, course enrollment data
Cloud Hosting Store platform data and video content All platform data in encrypted format
Analytics Tools Understand user behavior and improve experience Anonymized usage data, browsing patterns

We'll never share your information with advertisers or marketing companies. If we're legally required to disclose data (like through a court order), we'll notify you unless prohibited from doing so.

Your Rights Under Canadian Law

PIPEDA gives you meaningful control over your personal information. Here's what that means in practice:

Access and Review

You can request a copy of all personal information we hold about you. We'll provide it within 30 days, usually much faster.

Correction Rights

Found an error in your profile? Let us know and we'll fix it promptly. You can update most information directly in your account settings.

Withdrawal of Consent

You can withdraw consent for non-essential data processing at any time. This might limit some features, but your core learning access remains intact.

Account Deletion

Want to leave? Request full account deletion and we'll remove your personal data within 30 days, keeping only what's legally required for records.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@pizzaiolo.one or send a written request to our Cornwall office. We'll verify your identity and process your request without charging a fee.

Data Security Measures

We take security seriously because your trust matters. Our platform uses multiple layers of protection:

  • Industry-standard SSL/TLS encryption for all data transmission
  • Encrypted database storage with regular security audits
  • Two-factor authentication available for all user accounts
  • Regular backups stored in geographically separate locations
  • Limited employee access based on role requirements
  • Annual third-party security assessments and penetration testing

That said, no system is completely bulletproof. We do our best, but internet transmission always carries some inherent risk. If we detect a breach that affects your data, we'll notify you within 72 hours and explain what happened and what steps we're taking.

Data Retention and Deletion

How Long We Keep Information

Different types of data have different retention periods based on legal requirements and practical needs:

Active Account Data: Maintained throughout your enrollment and for 12 months after your last login to allow easy course access resumption.

Course Completion Records: Retained for 7 years to support credential verification and meet educational record-keeping requirements.

Financial Transaction Records: Kept for 7 years as required by Canadian tax and business laws.

Marketing Communications: Removed immediately upon unsubscribe request, though we'll keep a record that you opted out to prevent future contact.

Technical Logs: Anonymized after 90 days and deleted entirely after 2 years unless needed for security investigations.

Deletion Process

When you request account deletion or when retention periods expire, we follow a thorough process. Personal identifiers are removed first, then associated learning data is either anonymized or deleted within 30 days. Financial records are archived separately per legal requirements but disconnected from your personal profile.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies—small text files stored on your device—to make the platform work properly and remember your preferences. You have control over these.

Essential Cookies

These keep you logged in and remember your course progress. They're necessary for the platform to function, so they're always active. They don't track you across other websites.

Analytics Cookies

Help us understand which lessons are most valuable and where students get stuck. The data is anonymized—we see patterns, not individual behavior. You can disable these in your browser settings without affecting your learning experience.

Preference Cookies

Remember settings like video quality, subtitle preferences, and interface customization. Purely for your convenience—disabling them just means you'll need to set preferences each visit.

Most browsers let you manage cookies through their settings menu. Blocking all cookies might break some features, but you're free to experiment with what works for you.

Children's Privacy

Our platform is designed for adult learners and culinary professionals. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you're a parent and believe your child has created an account, contact us immediately and we'll delete it.

For users between 16-18, we recommend discussing your enrollment with a parent or guardian. While you can legally use our service, they might want to know about your educational activities.

International Data Considerations

We're a Canadian company and primarily serve the Canadian market. Your data is stored on servers located in Canada, subject to Canadian privacy laws. Some of our service providers operate internationally, which means data might occasionally pass through servers in other countries.

When this happens, we ensure those providers meet Canadian privacy standards through contractual agreements. If you're accessing our platform from outside Canada, your data will be governed by Canadian law regardless of your location.

Changes to This Policy

We review this privacy policy annually and update it when our practices change or laws evolve. When we make significant changes, we'll notify you by email at least 30 days before they take effect. The updated date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent version.

We won't reduce your rights under this policy without your explicit consent. If you don't agree with changes, you have the option to close your account before they become effective.

Questions and Complaints

If something here doesn't make sense or you're concerned about how we've handled your information, we want to hear about it. Most issues can be resolved through direct conversation.

Start by contacting our privacy team at support@pizzaiolo.one. We respond to privacy inquiries within 2 business days and aim to resolve concerns within 2 weeks.

If you're not satisfied with our response, you have the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. They're an independent authority that investigates privacy complaints and can be reached at priv.gc.ca.
